The Marriage Kneeler

What makes it the marriage kneeler?

Some Theology

2 into 1
Two individual matching kneelers that are joined together to form one large one. This is symbolic of how man and woman become one flesh in marriage.

United by Jesus Christ crucified.

God united himself to man in a unique way in the Incarnation of the Son, keeping his divine nature and taking our human nature. In that human nature he consummated the marriage covenant between God and man in his death on the cross.

A Flourish on an Old Tradition
The Croatian wedding cross tradition.

The couple receives each other’s vows holding the cross together. The priest says a few words about how they have found their cross in each other, the way of salvation and sanctification. The cross is to be displayed prominently in their home.

Our flourish.

The couple gives the cross to the priest celebrant to place on the altar for the celebration of the Eucharist.

At the end of the Eucharist, the cross is handed back to the couple to carry with them to hold while doing the devotion to Mary at her altar.

When they return to their kneeler, they insert the cross into its place in the kneeler, symbolizing the union that has taken place in the wedding.

What do you do with it?
Put it in a prominent place in your home as the focal point of your home prayer as a family.

How does this help prison ministry?
The kneelers are hand crafted by the employees of Serenelli Industries, our social enterprise company for hiring second chance employees and training them for the job market, or to pursue their own entrepreneurial dreams.

Want to learn more about the story behind this?

This is Marty    Marty Arlinghaus

Marty founded The Serenelli Project to create a new model for prison ministry and prison re-entry community, drawing from his experience in prison ministry through the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

Naturally, employment is an essential ingredient for success for the re-entering population.

We wanted to create an environment in Serenelli where our members’ work would not compete with their practice of their faith. To do this with the right legal structure, we had to create a for-profit subsidiary of the non-profit.

It is named Serenelli Industries.Serenelli Industries Logo

It is a social enterprise company that does three things:

  1. Provide valuable services and beautiful products for church, client and customer needs
  2. Hires individuals who need a second chance to perform said services as part of our professional labor force development
  3. Feeds quality second-chance employees to businesses looking for labor streams

It may sound odd for a non-profit to own a for-profit, but this is not uncommon in the non-profit world. It’s important to remember that Serenelli Industries is a social enterprise company, meaning that it serves a social need through the business it is doing. The other piece to understand is that the profits of the company do not go to shareholders personal benefit. The profits go to the non-profit as a part of our revenue stream to help fuel the good works we do to bring the Gospel to the imprisoned and accompany them on their path to heaven.

Industries currently has one employee. His name is Josh null

Josh does lawncare, landscaping, pressure washing, painting, and an assortment of other things. For the first year of operation he has done pretty well despite having to do it all from sales to maintenance, from billing to collections, to the manual labor, and a lot of equipment setbacks. The seed money has come from Serenelli Project to get this going, but we don’t have nearly enough to invest Industries with what it needs to get up on its own feet. Although Josh is doing well, Marty has been the acting CEO of the company from its start in 2025. The company needs real, full-time leadership…

This is Mark    null

Roy Aerts and Mark worked together to build the wedding kneeler.

Mark Frommeyer and Sara Frommeyer are the founders of a locally successful artisan bakery (Blue Oven Bakery) in the Cincinnati area. After a series of tragedies for the bakery and in his own personal life, Mark felt like he was being led on a journey to follow Jesus and figure out what’s next for him. The Lord crossed the paths of Serenelli Project and Mark when we were starting Serenelli Industries and mentioned to someone that we were thinking about a bakery as a division for second chance hiring. After getting to know each other and sharing Serenelli’s mission with him, we have been exploring several business ideas to make Serenelli Industries a successful model of second chance hiring for workforce development. The line of wedding kneelers is just one. Mark is not only a top-notch baker, but he has endless entrepreneurial drive and the business know-how to make it happen. We would like to hire Mark as our full-time CEO to take this company and run with it. He has plans not only for the kneeler and woodworking division of the company, but for a restaurant and production bakery, liturgical design division, and more.

But we can’t do it without investment. We need an angel donor.

If the Lord has blessed you with abundance, and you would like to see a large gift go to a transformative social enterprise company, consider Serenelli Industries.
